Congestion and the village Co-op Last update 7th September 07 As a Cuffley resident you will be aware of the congestion sometimes caused by Co-op delivery vehicles. For the past 2 months 'Keep Cuffley Rural' has been working with the Cuffley Co-op to try to find a resolution to their delivery vehicle problem. In July we enlisted the help of Charles Walker our MP who kindly agreed to write to the Parish Council to see what could be done to alleviate the problem. The Parish Council’s reply is so astonishing that we feel residents should be made aware of their confrontational approach which will achieve little to resolve the issue. Copies of the correspondence displayed in Wacketts Newsagent window are; 1. MP Charles Walker’s letter dated 17 July 2007. 2. Reply from John Mansfield –Parish Council dated 23 July 2007 3. Keep Cuffley Rural letter of response dated 24 August 2007 4. Reply from Anita Rust Chairman-Parish Council Both the Co-op and the Parish Council confirm that the delivery vehicle problem has not been raised for at least 18 months. Based on our investigations it appears many years have elapsed since the issue was formally raised by the Parish Council, indeed the Parish Council did not even know the name of the person in overall charge of the Co-op. Surely this makes their reference to “Fought a continual battle with the Co-op” somewhat hollow? The Co-op have been keen to assist Keep Cuffley Rural in finding a satisfactory resolution to the problem and have already taken action to re-schedule delivery vehicles so they do not coincide with peak periods of traffic during the morning and evening week day rush hours. Our Parish Councillors are the people residents voted for in May to act in the best interest of the local community. If a solution can be found for Tesco delivery vehicles before the store is even opened we have a right to expect similar treatment for the Cuffley Co-op who have been serving the district for countless years. |
